The next week and a half is going to be all about ChangeCamp. That’s because this Wednesday I’ll attend Social Media Breakfast Ottawa 9 with guest speaker Mark Kuznicki who recently helped organize ChangeCamp Toronto which, according to the SMBOttawa (paraphrased here), “was an event which asked its participants how to re-imagine government and citizenship in the age of participation. The inaugural Toronto event was a success and its unconference model is being looked at as a tool for citizen participation by communities and governments everywhere including Ottawa.”
I’ll be at ChangeCamp Ottawa all day, Saturday, May 16 exchanging ideas about how to re-imagine municipal government and citizenship in the age of participation. I’ll be there doing what many social economy organizations are already great at: building relationships face-to-face. What we’ll be discussing is what most of the same organizations need to learn: how to use technology to maintain and strengthen those relationships.

Hello,
My name is Liza Callahan and I am a film student at Vancouver Film School, originally from Toronto Ontario. I am currently in the pre-production stages of shooting a documentary about the ore coltan and the horrific realities of the war in the DRC and the consumer’s responsibility of awareness about their reckless consumption of cell phones. While researching I came across this article and other written by Robin Browne and was wondering if you knew of any resources in Vancouver that I could use in the making my film, anyone that could provide interviews of insight into the topic.
Thank you so much for your time.

Hi Liza,
Your film sounds great and is very needed. For more info check out this Dominion article by Jooneed Khan. http://www.dominionpaper.ca/articles/2198
I don’t know anyone in Vancouver but I suggest you contact Maurice Carney of the Washington-based Friends of the Congo. I spoke to him for my article and he was very informative and helpful.
Good luck!
